Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then, she became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became chief congressional reporter. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell appeared as both an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was on a panel for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 to recognize her efforts to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy stories over time, including budget reform, tax reform and an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. She traveled frequently with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
